Artist Encounters with Athier Mousawi
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
April 7, 9,10,11, 14,16,17,18, 21, 4:00 - 7:00pm
Join artist Athier Mousawi for a collaborative workshop inspired by the work of pioneering Iraqi artist Jewad Selim. Participants will contribute to the completion of an original artwork by Mousawi, entitled Mother, Land, Love and Fear. Through creative writing and experimentation with drawing and painting, participants will add their own symbols to Mousawi’s artwork.
Participants must be able to attend all nine days of the workshop.

Maktaba and Mathaf Reading Circles

5 Artists in 6 Days: An Exploration in Abstraction
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
April 23 - May 2, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
This quick-paced course in abstract painting will look at the five artists featured in the Mathaf exhibition Forever Now over the course of six days. Students will explore the process of moving from naturalism to abstraction, challenging themselves to paint instinctively and to examine the world through a new lens.
This course is offered through VCU-Q's community art classes.
The course fee is 725 QR.
