Care and Preservation

It is the responsibility of all researchers to comply with Museum regulations related to the preservation of the collection. The researcher agrees to observe access and security regulations relating to the use of Mathaf’s collection and study areas. The researcher agrees to observe conservation guidelines and restrictions for handling artwork. The collection shall be given proper care to ensure against loss, damage or deterioration. The researcher will not remove tags, repair, clean, alter or restore objects without written approval from Mathaf Research, Conservation and Collection teams.

Costs

Mathaf does not charge any fees for research conducted on the collections. No fees are charged for copies of associated documentation or staff time.

Photography

All photography must be approved in advance. Photographs of the collection may be taken for nonprofit, educational or research purposes. Permission to publish photos of artwork must be arranged by completing the iconography request form.

Publication and Documentation

The researcher agrees to inform the Mathaf Research team if research is to be published. The researcher agrees to provide Mathaf with a copy of any materials produced that are derived in part or whole from research conducted at Mathaf, including any materials which are produced in fulfilment of educational requirements or which are published for commercial purposes through broadcast, digital or print media. Proper acknowledgment of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art should be included.

Credit Lines

For exhibitions and publications, each object shall be credited: Courtesy of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha, Qatar, unless otherwise indicated.

Database

The Mathaf Collections Database is intended to support use of the collections, not to replace use of the collections themselves. It is the first step in the process of research and an important tool for organisation of data prior to primary data gathering. The Mathaf Database is in the process of reconstruction and verification, thus in some cases the data contained in the database may be incomplete or incorrect. It is the responsibility of the researcher to verify catalogue entry identification and associated information before reporting data from the database in any form.

Students

Students are subject to the same policies and procedures as other researchers. Research requests from students must be accompanied by a letter of support from an academic advisor.

Special Conditions

Special conditions for access may be placed on certain collections.

Travel Arrangements

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art is not responsible for arranging visas, travel agendas or covering any fees related to the researchers’ travel to Qatar. Mathaf can, however, provide a written letter to the candidate to support their application and reason for visit, if necessary.
