we refuse_d brings together 15 artists whose practices explore refusal and endurance, asking what it means to persist under censorship and displacement. The exhibition’s premise is further developed through the public programmes at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.
The programme considers what prospects have emerged from shifts in working conditions across the international field. They highlight a range of responses pursued by artists and their collaborators in recent years, from the development of long-term support structures, to a revisiting of craft, and new approaches, to abstraction.
