Brahim Alaoui is an art historian, curator, and artistic director of Photo Tanger, an international photography festival. He began as a researcher at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and later became director of the museum at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Between 1987 and 2007, he organised numerous exhibitions there. He has authored many books and catalogues and edits two series on modern and contemporary Arab artists for Skira Editions in Paris. He has served on various juries, including the Venice Biennale in 1999 (UNESCO Prize) and the Shanghai Biennale in 2001 (UNESCO Prize). He is also a member of the UNESCO Advisory Committee on Works of Art. He now divides his time between cultural engineering consultancy, publishing, and curating exhibitions.
