Deniz Artun is a writer and curator. Artun studied Sociology at Middle East Technical University in Ankara and earned an MA in cultural history from New York University. She pursued doctoral studies in cultural anthropology at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Paris, researching Ottoman and Turkish artists in France (1850-1950). This research became her book, Translations of Modernity from Paris. Since 2001, Artun has directed Galeri Nev, curating exhibitions, focusing on private collections and supporting women artists. Her 2021 exhibition, I, You, They: A Century of Women Artists at Meşher in Istanbul, featured 117 artists. In recognition of her contributions to Turkish-French artistic and cultural exchange, the French Republic awarded Deniz Artun the Chevalier of Arts and Letters in 2023.
