Holiday Powers

Holiday Powers is associate professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History at  the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar. Her research interests include modern and contemporary Arab art, postcolonial and feminist theory, and the articulation of globalised discourses within local contexts. Her book Moroccan Modernism was published in December 2024 at Ohio University Press as part of the New African Histories series.

She has contributed to a number of journals and books, including Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art,The Journal of North African Studies, and Under the Skin: Feminist Art from the Middle East and North Africa Today and Decolonizing Islamic Art in Africa: New Approaches to Muslim Expressive Cultures, respectively. Powers  served as curatorial adviser for the permanent collection rehang at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.
