Miriam Jewad Selim

Miriam Jewad Selim is the second child of artists Lorna and Jewad Selim, born in Baghdad. Although talented from a young age, she was advised to pursue mathematics and found her calling in teaching. As a primary school headteacher, Miriam trained to be a headteacher performance assessor and advocate, to promote improvements in learning and behaviour management in Welsh schools. With her mother Lorna living with her, Miriam has been immersed in the Baghdad art scene throughout her life. In retirement, as primary carer for her mother, she encouraged Lorna to collect memoirs of her life as an Iraqi artist. She is co-curator of her parents’ archives and has taken over her mother’s role as authenticator of Jewad and Lorna’s works.
